What is a Community Foundation?

Inspiring local giving.

Community Foundations are your local, one stop shop to give in your community. They are independent and not-for-profit, running on a proven model of regionally based philanthropy, that has grown internationally over 100 years. Community Foundations are now found in most regions of New Zealand.

Community Foundations focus on a region and its people, enabling those who live there to give and shape their communities. They are governed by passionate and skilled local volunteer Boards

Community Foundations build long-term, reliable funding streams for their local communities by investing and growing the gifts they receive. So, you’re not really giving to a Community Foundation, but through it.  And the investment model means your generosity will have benefits, forever.

We love where we live.

The Aoraki Foundation is part of a network of Community Foundations that have been growing around Aotearoa New Zealand since 2003.

Through the coordination of Community Foundations of Aotearoa NZ (our national body), we’re all working to make a lasting difference in our local communities. Our aim is for every New Zealander to be able to affect lasting change wherever their home or heart may be.
