Our role is to make it as easy as possible for you to give back to your community. We offer a range of flexible solutions designed to fulfill your charitable goals and provide you with maximum tax benefits.

Donate during your lifetime

Start a satisfying journey and become a donor during your lifetime. Your gift will support your chosen charity or charities. Click here to find out more.

Donations can be of any size - you do not need to be wealthy to give.

Donations can be added to the General Purpose Endowment Fund or added to one of our Special Purpose Endowment Funds, the choice is yours.

Any donation under $5000 is welcome and will be added to the General Fund which is managed by the Aoraki Foundation Trustees.

Donations of $5000 or more will be added to the General Fund and tracked in the name of the donor. Once the fund reaches $50,000, Named Fund privileges will apply which means you can choose which charities receive annual distributions from your Named Fund.

Giving during your lifetime qualifies for a 33% tax rebate up to a limit of your taxable income.

Transfer of an existing charitable trust

Aoraki Foundation can take over the management of existing Charitable Trusts by creating them a fund within the Foundation. Click here to find out more.

This can have many benefits for trustees of those Funds through:

  • providing stable trusteeship (as replacing trustees over time can be a difficulty for many charitable trusts)
  • giving expertise to distribution of the funds to the causes in the trust deed
  • providing long term investment management of funds at very low costs.

Named endowment funds

Establishing your own fund is a way of ensuring that your charitable goals are brought to life and supported in perpetuity. Click here to find out more.

An Aoraki Foundation named endowment fund is easier and less expensive than starting your own private charitable trust. When you establish your own endowment fund your charitable purpose receives annual income while the capital is maintained by the Aoraki Foundation.

Your fund can be in your name, your family name or any name of your choice.

Your choice of charities or causes will receive distributions from the income from your fund.

You will receive annual reports on earnings and distributions from your Named Endowment Fund.

Endowment funds for community groups

Community groups or charities can create an endowment fund through the Aoraki Foundation to ensure they are supported forever. Click here to find out more.

By working with the Aoraki Foundation a South Canterbury Community Group may choose to have their own fund.

Bequests and donations to that community group can grow and be managed by our Trustees for now and forever. The fund can be a vehicle for those passionate about their organisation to give back in their will or whilst they are living.

Have a memorandum of understanding that provides the details for an organisation setting up a fund but gives interested people more information.

Leave a legacy in your will

When making your will consider giving something back to your community, or leave a bequest to your favourite charitable cause. Click here to find out more.

You may wish to make a gift for the benefit of your community by leaving a percentage of your estate or a specified sum in your will to the Aoraki Foundation, knowing that it will keep giving forever.

Legacies can also be left to the General Purpose Fund. This fund is distributed to worthy causes in South Canterbury and entirely managed by our passionate team of trustees.

Legacies may create or add to a Named Endowment Fund.

You can also choose to gift to existing Endowment Funds which have specific purposes that may meet your own passions for giving in the community. For example we manage the South Canterbury Health Endowment Fund, which has been created to support any health-related purpose in our community.

Workplace
giving

Workplace giving is a fantastic way for employers to help their employees give back to local community they love. Click here to find out more.

Aoraki Foundation can help companies set up a regular giving via their payroll system.

Giving a little often is an easy way to donate, with the added bonus of an immediate tax benefit.

An employee can choose to independently give to their community also through payroll giving.

Employees receive an immediate tax credit for their donations instead of having to retain their receipts and wait until the end of the year to claim a rebate. For every dollar donated they receive a third back as a tax credit in the same pay period.
