Together we can save lives.

We all know that anxious feeling when we hear the Westpac Rescue Helicopter overhead in South Canterbury. What has happened? Where are they heading? Who is involved?

Ironically the outcome would be so much worse if we didn’t hear the helicopter. The Westpac Rescue Helicopter saves lives, it is as simple as that. In trauma cases such as road accidents and medical emergencies, getting emergency care or treatment to a patient at the scene within 60 minutes of an accident or incident increases the patients chance of making a full recovery by over 80%.

South Canterbury is a unique place. Rugged coastlines and vast rural landscapes to lush forests and towering alpine peaks; it is an environment that has few equals. When things go wrong in these environments we are vulnerable and isolated. The Westpac Rescue Helicopter provides a critical lifeline for more than 55,000 people in the Aoraki region.

St. Vianney’s Timaru Trust

The St. Vianney’s Timaru Trust was established when the Sisters of Compassion sold the Morgans Road, Home of Compassion. The Trust has supported the Westpac Rescue Helicopter directly for a number of years. The trustees wanted a way to ensure future gifts supported just those services delivered in South Canterbury.

Working with the Canterbury West Coast Air Rescue Trust, St. Vianney’s Timaru Trust helped launch the fund with a generous seed gift of $50,000.

Seed Gift

"The Sisters of Compassion provided care for those in need in our community. It is in their honour that we have become the seed donor of the South Canterbury Air Rescue Fund ''

– Dale Walden, St. Vianney’s Timaru Trust
